Resistance against the Khmer Rouge

Mr. Keo Duong, Writer of App-learning on Khmer Rouge History, Bophana Center

The Khmer Rouge government exercised tight control over its people and cadres after they seized power in 1975. However, numerous forms of resistance were practiced for entire Khmer Rouge regime, including daily resistance by the people, resistance by cadres, and another significant form of resistance by a number of armed groups. This presentation will briefly describe daily resistance and cadre resistance by selecting few testimonies as examples. The presentation will mainly focus on armed resistance of different armed groups who ran away into the forest or fled to the neighboring countries. These groups played significant role in overthrowing the Khmer Rouge regime.
