Seasons of Migration

Special screening presented by Sophiline Cheam Shapiro (2005, 56min, in English)

Sophiline Cheam Shapiro, former student and choreographer from the Cambodia’s Royal University of Fine Arts, migrated to the United States in 1991. She created a new dance entitled Seasons of Migration, which reflects her experience adjusting to new culture and identity as a Cambodian-American. In this video, Sophiline guides the audience through the dance and discusses its process and meaning. The video also highlights insights of some Cambodian-Americans in Long Beach about their diasporic experience.

The film will be screened in its English version and will be followed by a debate, in the presence of Mrs. Chea Shapiro. Simultaneous interpretations in Khmer will be provided.

Free entrance. All are welcome.
