« Visualizing the Mekong: Stimulating Youth’s Participation and Engagement Through Documentary Films »

Under the Funding provided by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), with support from BBC Media Action, the Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center implements a project « Visualizing the Mekong: Stimulating Youth’s Participation and Engagement Through Documentary Films » for 12 months from November 2021 to October 2022.

One of the main purposes of this project is to provide opportunities for young Cambodians to participate in and engage with the community through the production of documentary films to understand and to show the lives, traditions, culture, as well as the environment along the Mekong River.  Another main purpose is to promote and disseminate documentary films produced by the 15 young potential youths in this project. The produced documentary films will be used as an innovative tool to encourage and increase the participation of other youths in the community and also to contribute to the sustainable development of their community.

The project provides scholarships to 15 young Cambodians between the ages of 18 and 30 to participate in the documentary filmmaking and multimedia training. The Youth’s capacity building and skills training program on documentary filmmaking and multimedia is one of the main missions of the Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center.

Participants will learn the film production process at all stages of documentary film production, including pre-production, production and post-production.

In order to provide good inputs to the project, especially to the participants of the project, the Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center collaborates with other organizations and related projects, as consulting partners, such as WWF-Cambodia, Oxfam Cambodia, NGO Forum on Cambodia and the Wonder of the Mekong River.
