Between tradition and modernity

An Exhibition of Photographs by Mélina MacDonald

From July 5 to August 01
Opening reception: Tuesday, July 5th at 6:30pm

“I am a French student with Khmer family connections. In the last few years, I have travelled around my second fatherland, Cambodia, and have discovered a magnificent country whose warm-hearted and resourceful inhabitants welcome you. They have their own culture and their fascinating customs and history.

Being a keen photographer, I wanted to capture all this in my photos. At the beginning, I did not really have any particular idea of what I wanted to do. So I photographed Cambodia as I saw it, whilst remaining as objective as possible. The country is going through a transitory period, caught between tradition and modernity. One just needs to take a walk through the capital city to see this illustrated. My project is to show these two worlds living side by side.

Photography is for me like a melody, made up of fugitive moments to be captured and which, together, create their own musical harmony. I wish to share with you this special melody on Cambodia which thrilled me so…”
