Documentaries: Issues in indigenous communities in Cambodia – Online

Directed by Lean Mang, Vunneng Leng, Poav Sev, 2019-2020, 26min, Khmer, Tumpuan, Jarai version with Khmer subtitles

The documentaries produced by young filmmakers within the framework of the project « Amplifying Voices of Indigenous Women and Discriminated Groups through innovative multimedia » implemented by Bophana Center, showing issues in Cambodia’s indigenous communities, such as violence, early marriage, disability, etc.

1. Endure
Directed by Lean Mang and Vunneng Leng, 2019, 11mn, Khmer and Tumpuan version with Khmer subtitles
Divorced from her husband who beat her and children, Nghas Hourng lives completely destitute in Ratanakiri province with her three daughters. One of whom is sick and Nghas doesn’t have enough money to take her to the health center.

2. Kanab (My Path)
Directed by Paov Sev, 2019, 8mn, Khmer and Jarai version with Khmer subtitles
Ye Romam was 15 and Kan Rochom was 18 when they got married. A year after their marriage, Ye and Kan had a baby born with health issues which required surgery. The young couple had to borrow $250, which they are still paying back two years later.

3. Struggle
Directed by Vunneng Leng, 2020, 7mn, Khmer and Tumpuan version with Khmer subtitles
In rural Ratanakiri province, Net Kreak lost his leg after being bitten by a poisonous snake. Following the accident, Net Kreak’s wife left with his children. Now, Net Kreak lives alone with his mother and works a variety of jobs to support them both.

The screening will be followed by a talk with two filmmakers, Mr. Vunneng Leng and Mr. Lean Mang, conducted in Khmer. A Q&A session will be open for our audience.
