Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center (ARPAA) and Cambodia Indigenous Peoples Organization (CIPO) co-implement the project “The Arts of Visibility and Positive Social Change” for 21 months starting from April, 2022 to December 2023. This project is co-funded by Voice through Oxfam in Cambodia, Ford Foundation and Heinrich Böll Stiftung Cambodia.The aim of the project is to transform and empower voices of indigenous youths, particularly women indigenous knowledge, artivism and multimedia technology.

This project provides the full scholarship to 24 indigenous youths, from Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces, aging between 18 and 30 years old to join the training program on documentary filmmaking and multimedia training. In addition, the project will provide the trainees the basic knowledge on information and communications technology (ICT).

To ensure the participation of youth, especially women, from many different indigenous communities in this project, the Bophana Center provides the training directly in Banlung city, Ratanakkiri Province.

The innovative features of this project are (1) the inclusion of trained indigenous youth in the previous project to advise the trainees in this project, (2) the development of glossary on filmmaking in indigenous languages through the collaborative work between indigenous youths and film experts (3) the training on how to organize photo exhibitions and cultural events; and (4) mutual exchange visit and cooperation between youth in Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri provinces for documentary filmmaking.

Through this project, the Bophana Center continues contributing to the connection between youth and elder people in indigenous community through the transmission of traditional knowledge and the sharing of life experience and the​ challenges in the communities, in the process of participatory filmmaking. The documentary films produced in the project will be in indigenous languages, for indigenous language preservation purpose.

The produced documentary films will be screened at local level in the indigenous communities and at the national and international level.
