Phka Sla Dance Drama

Produced by the Bophana Center, 2018, 82 min, Khmer version with English subtitles

A group of 16 female dancers are using classical dance to depict the horror of forced marriages during the Khmer Rouge. The dance performance tackles a subject that was a taboo in Cambodia society until not long ago and uses subtle movements, set to the slow rhythm of traditional music, that progressively quickens to depict the cruelty of physical and sexual violence.
