Au pays des sentinelles éternelles
directed by Nara Keo Kosal, 1h 15 mins, 2003, A documentary film in French
The documentary “Au pays des sentinelles éternelles”, made in 2003 and running 1 hour and 15 minutes, was directed by Nara Keo Kosal, who is currently a film programmer for the Festival Si loin, si proche, a festival in France showcasing films about Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.
The film is first and foremost the story of a meeting between Cambodia and filmmaker Bertrand Tavernier, who came to the country to shoot “Holly Lola”. It also tells the story of encounters between Cambodian and French artists and film technicians during the production of the film (Holly Lola). But above all, it is the personal story of Nara Keo Kosal, a Cambodian who returned to his homeland to reconnect with his roots and relearn the Khmer language.
Following the screening, we will hold a discussion with the film’s director about the making of the documentary, as well as the process of selecting films from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam for the Festival Si loin, si proche.
