Sent to jail on multiple occasions for inciting disorder and riots, he quickly rises from modest postal clerk to Prime Minister of one of the richest countries in Africa. He becomes one of the most vilified figures in an intense Cold War period. His tragic destiny was programmed early on: he is assassinated only 3 months after his election.
