BURNT THEATRE

A film by Rithy Panh, 83min, 2005, Khmer version with English subtitles

Based on the actual lives of cambodian artists, the film depicts a troupe of actors and dancers struggling to practice their art in the burned-out shell of Cambodia’s former national theatre, the Preah Suramarit National Theatre in Phnom Penh (or the Bassac Theatre) which was designed by Vann Molyvann in the 1960s.
