PANEL DISCUSSION «After Genocide: What Lessons from Cambodia and Rwanda? »

Discussion moderated by Vanaka Chhem-Kieth including panelists : Anne Aghion (director My Neigbor My Killer), Thierry Cruvellier (journalist) and Michele Mitchell (director The Uncondemned), Sopheap Chea (Director, Bophana Center)

Both Cambodia and Rwanda have gone through mass murder organized by the state. But the ways the two countries have chosen to deal with the aftermath were largely different. Should punishment be central? How does reconciliation really work? What truths prevail? What to remember and how? This debate will look into how both countries have responded to the call for justice and in particular how trials and movies about trials help achieve such goals, or not.
