On May 26, 2024, the Rei Foundation, the Bophana Center, Khmer Communities in Japan, and the Alive Team—a group of Cambodian youth based in Japan—joined forces for the Acts of Memory Project. This project aimed to capture and record dialogues between Khmer Rouge survivors and their descendants, preserving these important narratives for future generations. …
The event kicked off with welcoming remarks from Ms. Reiko Fukutake, Executive Director of the Rei Foundation. This was followed by a discussion between Mr. Chea Sopheap, Executive Director of the Bophana Center, members of the Alive Team, and representatives of the Cambodian Communities in Japanabout the project implementation.
Participants praised the initiative, valuing it as a significant opportunity for survivors to share their wartime experiences and their new lives in Japan with the younger generation, through recorded interviews known as “Recordings of Me.”
We are grateful to the Rei Foundation Limited, the Alive Team, and the Cambodian Communities in Japan for their support. We look forward to ongoing collaboration that will help us preserve and celebrate these invaluable shared memories.
