Mobile Screening “M-13: The Birthplace of the Khmer Rouge’s Brutality” at Udong High School in Kampong Speu Province

On the afternoon of May 31, 2024, the Bophana Center organized a screening of the documentary film “M-13: The Birthplace of the Khmer Rouge’s Brutality” at Udong High School in Kampong Speu Province, attended by over 200 students. Following the screening, discussions were held with two survivors of the Pol Pot regime, who shared their personal life stories and provided a general overview of prison, living conditions of the prisoners, and the methods of torture used.

We hope this documentary will serve as an indelible historical record and a valuable research resource for both students and researchers interested in studying M-13. This documentary film will be screened again during Cambodia International Film Festival from 25 to 30 June 2024. Therefore, please do not miss this opportunity.

This project has been a collaborative effort with the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Education, Justice and Memory Network (EdJAM), with funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Global Challenges Research Fund.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Education, Youth and Sports, the management and students of Udong High School, Kampong Speu Province, the lecturer from the Royal University of Phnom Penh, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and all participants who contributed to the project and the successful event.
