” Duch: Master of the Forges of Hell”, Cambodia, 2012, 110 min., Khmer language with English subtitles

In Cambodia, between 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rouge regime caused the death of 1.8 million people, representing one-quarter of the population of Cambodia. Kaing Guek Eav, known as “Duch”, was in charge of M13, a Khmer Rouge-controlled prison, for 4 years before being appointed by Angkar, to the S21 in Phnom Penh. As party secretary, he commanded the Khmer Rouge killing machine in which at least 12,280 people were perished. In 2009, when Duch attends his new trial, Rithy Panh ask him the long question and get the answer.

On the occasion of the special screening, one of the rare survivers of S21, Mr. Chum Mey, will be present in order to share his experience with us. (in Khmer language with interpretation in English)
