Khun Vannak

The experience of lockdown following the COVID 19 pandemic has deeply transformed the daily life of all inhabitants all over the world and the changes in the city and in the public space have been spectacular. Vannak Khun, somehow defying the ban, left his home and, masked, he photographed himself at night in the empty city. Absolute strangeness that of this isolated human seeking to inhabit space in order to recognize it, to find a place for his body. There is in this work – as in many of the artist’s previous series – a part of performance, a form of gestural expression created only to be photographed. And a testimony about a strange and very special moment in the history of the country, of the city, of individuals in a fictional, cinematographic atmosphere, which evokes drama.
