Bophana Center’s film students were invited to Switzerland

In the framework of the project “Le Grand Voyage”, a film student exchange program between Switzerland and Cambodia launched by HEAD (Haute école d’art et de design Genève), 7 of Bophana Center’s film students traveled to Switzerland!

They visited HEAD in Geneva with two objectives: first, to finalize the post-production process of the short films that they had co-directed together with Swiss students who came to Cambodia in November 2015. Second, to co-present their newly produced films in International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) with HEAD’s students. The films were enthusiastically welcomed by an international audience.

After the festival, the Cambodian students were invited to Bern by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Head office. At the SDC office, in the presence of Ambassador H.E. Manuel Sager, the Bophana Center’s students presented their One Dollar Project short films which were made thanks to the support of SDC.

Bophana Center and its film students would like to extend their sincere gratitude to SDC and HEAD for their kind and generous support and the opportunity for rich intercultural exchange.

Asia Doc 2016

Together with the Goethe Institute in Vietnam, the French Institutes in Vietnam and Cambodia and the Bophana Center in Phnom Penh, Docmonde proposes a documentary script-writing residence and a documentary co-production meeting for Southeast Asian authors (Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei).

From February 22nd to March 5th 2016, at the Bophana Center in Phnom Penh, the selected authors will have the opportunity to develop their documentary projects. One trainer from Germany, writer and director himself, will mentor the program.

Together they will analyst the content and the esthetical options of their projects, they will screen films related to their projects, they will define the development possibilities, and finally write a new version of their script.

The training program is free of charge for the selected participants.
Qualification is not required but at least some experience in film-making (professional or non-professional), in link with the image (broadcasting, photography, visual arts…) or writing (theatre, literature…) would be preferable. The trainer will adapt to the development stage of the project and the experience of the participants to provide them with the relevant level of assistance they need to strengthen their projects. Beginners and experienced filmmakers can apply.

The projects should be presented by film writers/makers, whether or not they already have a producer, and good communication skills in English are required.

Applications including the form filled in and the required documents must be sent only by email and in English before January 23rd 2016 – midnight to the following address:

The program usually highlights movies made in or about Cambodia but also a selection of films from around the world in diverse formats – short and long fictions, documentaries, animation.

The goal of the festival is not only to present other cultures and exchange ideas, but also to be a crossroad for young and more experienced film professionals to expose their work.

The CIFF has been organised by the Cambodia Film Commission (CFC) and the Bophana Center since 2010 and has now become the most significant professional film event in Cambodia.
